Steinway & Sons and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra have collaborated on "Pianos in Public Spaces" as part of the CSO's 'Keys To The City' festival. Steinway concert grands have been placed in 12 of Chicago’s most iconic (and somewhat unexpected) public spaces. From the Field Museum to Northwestern Memorial Hospital to the Art Institute of Chicago to the United Airlines headquarters to Harold Washington Library Center to the wilderness walk, right outside of the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, all the pianos are accessible either publicly or by escorts from CSO volunteers. As a special treat, the Shedd Aquarium is offering free general admission to anyone who wants to play the piano. Make sure to download the pass before you go!
Everyone is encouraged—beginner, amateur or professional—to sit down and play one of these magnificent instruments on loan from Steinway & Sons. To help prime the keys, Manny Ax will visit several locations throughout the day. For a full listing of when and where you can play a Steinway concert grand piano, see the CSO's webpage here.
